I’ve signed up to change my electricity supplier to Poweo, who’s Poweo Planete offer will supply me with 100% renewable-sourced electricity. The theory says that by the first of July, all my electricity will come from 100% renewable sources. I’ll let you know how it goes…

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

Re-use is better than recycling. If you have something that still works, but you would like to see it being re-used rather than take it to the recycling depot, consider freecycling it.

FreeCycleGeneve is the Geneva (and surrounding area) freecycling group. You can give things away on this list, and maybe find some things you need for free, all in the interest of re-using things.

It’s a great way to ensure that things are used as much as possible. The group is bilingual, with messages in both French and English.

Going Solar: Six Month Update is an interesting overview of what it is really like to have solar panels installed. I have another friend in Germany (with more clouds than southern California!) who has had this done and he says that basically it generates nothing in winter, but is still worth it for the months he pays no electricity bills.

www.ecotricity.co.uk looks to be a good way to put your money where your mouth is if you claim to be green and are in the UK. Hard cash is the only thing that will get businesses doing something about going green, so lead the way.

In The Sun Online – News: 27 ways to go green in 2007 they tell you 27 easy ways to be more environmentally friendly. Even I only manage 21 of them.

My new car – Toyota Prius

One of the coolest tech toys on the planet. The Hybrid Synergy Drive equipped Toyota Prius – half petrol – half electric powered – uses a combination of batteries, electrical motor/generator, and regenerative braking to drastically reduce fuel consumption in a full sized and fully equipped saloon car. My new car looks just like this. It appeals to the geek in me – driving utterly silently in electric-only mode at 130 km/h quietly enough that I can hear the power steering going round corners or just gliding silently round a car park. All this, 0-100km/h in 10.9 seconds and the fuel economy is better than most 1.0 litre small cars. I have never had so much fun being green and saving money :)
